Kathryn Compton

Kathryn has lived on the West Coast most of her adult life and has always been inspired by what the Island had to offer.  For many years she thought she might paint "when she had time".  In Campbell River in 1998, Kathryn found the incredible studio of Chris Wootton and finally understood: one makes time to paint, not the other way around. Painters of all walks and talents gathered there weekly, and amidst an eclectic selection of subjects, music and conversation, Kathryn found her muse.

Kathryn left the Island for Vancouver in 2001 where she exhibited happily with the Burnaby Artist’s Guild for 8 years.  She returned to her beloved Island in 2009, this time to lovely Victoria.  Searching for a community, Kathryn found local art group, Studio 30, and from there banded together with a few like-minded artists who wished to paint together, critique each other, and share their work.  They became “Platinum Painters, Visual Artists”.  To further immerse herself in the Victoria art scene, Kathryn joined the Saanich Peninsula Arts and Crafts Society (SPAC) in 2017/18.  Kathryn recently found the Arts & Culture Colwood Society and became a member in 2022.

Kathryn is thoroughly engaged in the joy of oil painting.  Though initially a watercolourist, she began exploring oils in 2019 and now paints almost exclusively in oil.   Kathryn teaches both watercolour and oil techniques and considers that she herself is a perpetual student.

Kathryn exhibits with the FCA, Arts & Culture Colwood, SPAC, and Studio 30.
